Of course, I have many friends and relatives who would love to visit Hokkaido and travel around on their own. But their main worries are the cost and the language. The most frequent questions I get are:
- "How do we get around on our own? Is it better to drive or take public transport?"
- "Where is the best place to rent a car? Do they provide a navigation system?"
- "Which hotels should we stay in? Are they very expensive? How should I book these hotels?"
- "Hokkaido has so many places that seem nice. Which ones should we visit?"
- "How do we plan an itinerary that fits our schedule? How many days do we need in each location?"
- "Can we get around on our own if we don't speak Japanese?"
So it was for friends like these that I decided to sit down and write this guidebook.
